“To be self-confident means to strongly believe in yourself; to be secure in yourself and your abilities.”

By definition confidence is “full trust; belief in the powers, the trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing”. To be self-confident means to strongly believe in yourself; to be secure in yourself and your abilities.

Confidence is attractive but why is that so? Personally, I think it’s because confident people remind us of who we want to be. Confident people radiate good energy, which is kinda contagious, and they make others feel good and comfortable, too. Now, who wouldn’t want to be around that type of person, or who wouldn’t want to be the person that makes others feel good?

However, confidence has an evil little twin that goes by the name cockiness or arrogance. Unfortunately, there’s a thin line between confidence and cockiness.

Confident people help others achieve their dreams, they accept their mistakes and learn from them, they are decisive, open minded, willing to learn, and they never talk negatively about others.

On the other hand, arrogant people bring other people down, they blame others for their mistakes, they’re indecisive, closed minded, judgemental, and they simply think they’re better than everybody else.

I find arrogance with most people works as a defence mechanism in order to protect their ego. Furthermore, arrogance can also be a way for people to mask their true feelings. Feelings such as insecurity, lack of confidence, fear of failure or emotional pain.

It’s easy to become arrogant but it’s not so easy to become confident. Even though us humans are born with confidence many situations in our lives can take confidence away from us. Truth be told, we can miss out on a lot if we’re lacking in self-confidence. That’s why I want to share with you today five awesome ways to re-gain and boost your confidence.

5 Ways To Boost Your Confidence

1. Exercise Your Mind

I’ll put this simply – never ever stop learning! Knowledge is important; knowledge empowers you, and when you feel empowered you feel confident. Here I am talking about any type of learning and expanding your knowledge. Anything from reading books, watching documentaries, researching topics you’re interested about, etc.

By learning you will start to understand others better, as well as yourself and this crazy rollercoaster called life! The more you learn the easier it will become to confidently pursue your dreams.

2. Take A Social Media Brake

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, you name it…We all love spending time on social media scrolling through pretty pictures. While this seems fun at times, social media can have its downsides.

It is unbelievably easy to compare ourselves to people on social media and make assumptions. However, you can’t forget that people who post their photos online have complete control over them. Photos can be modified and edited in any way, but even if they aren’t edited, they only represent that one single moment, not the person’s whole life.

If you’re one of those people who tend to constantly compare themselves to others, you need to take a break from social media. Give it a week or two and in that time focus on yourself. If you’re ever going to compare yourself to someone it should only be to the person in the mirror.

3. Focus On Your Strengths

All of us humans have our own strengths and weaknesses; it’s just that with the most of us our brains work in a way where we focus more on our weaknesses instead of strengths. Putting yourself down and constantly telling yourself what you can’t do isn’t gonna get you far in life.

Focusing on the problem is easy while focusing on the solution is hard and that’s why most of us don’t even try to make a change. As individuals we’re all different. Each and every one of us has something we’re very very good at. Focus on that and build your strengths and abilities from there.

4. Work On Body Language

Body language is extremely important when it comes to confidence. Imagine if you were observing animals in the wild, or even your pets at home. They can’t speak to you, they can’t tell you how they feel, yet you would know this simply from their body language. How their ears are moving, their tails, if their eyes are dilated, etc.

It’s the same with humans. A confident person keeps eye contact while speaking to others, has a good, healthy and strong posture, talks with confidence, and has a genuine smile when greeting others. I can’t tell you enough how important this is during a job interview and when you’re meeting new people.

5. Take Care Of Yourself

Adding on to the previous point, body image is as important as body language. However, taking care of yourself should be something you enjoy, something that relaxes you and makes you feel better because in the end it actually will.

How many times you instantly felt better by simply washing your hair, or doing your nails or shaving? You know that when you look good you feel good. So go do a little something for yourself that’s gonna brighten up your day and make you feel like you can conquer the world!

Conclusion

As I mentioned earlier, we were all born with confidence but it depends how hard we work to keep it and grow it. We should all strive to be the best versions of ourselves; to feel confident in ourselves and to believe we can do anything. Believe you can and you’re halfway there!

I’m going to leave you with a quote but do let me know in the comments below in what other ways do you boost your confidence?

“Be confident. Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it is only when you accept everything you are, and aren’t, that you will truly succeed.”

Stay awesome,

M, xo
